ABOUT
Evansville native Tay Ruthenburg has always had an intuitive sense for what makes a space beautiful, welcoming, and inspiring. After earning an English degree from Butler University, his path took a creative turn when he studied at the New York School of Interior Design.
A chance introduction to Evaline Karges, a respected designer and member of the Karges Furniture family, launched his interior design career. Under Evaline and her daughter Caroline’s mentorship, Tay gained invaluable experience before purchasing Evaline Karges Interiors in 1989.
For more than 35 years, Tay has created timeless, balanced designs for homes, private clubs, and institutions across the U.S. and beyond — from Evansville and Chicago to the West Coast and Mexico. Known for blending traditional and contemporary elements, his work emphasizes harmony in color, texture, and light.
Collaboration defines Tay’s approach. He’s built lasting relationships — sometimes with multiple generations of the same family — and values the exceptional craftsmanship found in Southwestern Indiana, which he considers unmatched.
